Detroit is a city devastated by the cruelty of capitalism. What was once a manufacturing hub and bustling metropolis, has been abandoned by the companies that grew rich from the work of the residents of Detroit. With entire neighborhoods falling into ruin, Pastor Arric Wilkerson stepped up in a big way to do something about the neighborhood around his church. Nine years ago, #ArricWilkerson purchased one of the run-down homes and renovated it. In partnership with his congregation, he repeated this 25 times since. They take these homes and rent them to members of the congregation for just $500 a month. They have transformed an entire neighborhood this way while uplifting 25 families. This is an amazing display of what is possible with slow and steady dedicated work. Every Black church in the nation should be doing this kind of thing. If they combine this with Black businesses that they create, soon enough they will have a thriving Black economy, accelerating their ability to do this kind of thing. Is this something you could do alone or in partnership with family and friends?
